Land & Water Resources
(Madison, WI) Dane County has over 30 water-related groups working to improve and protect our local water resources and they need your help to do it! The Take a Stake in our Waters program (www.takeastake.org), coordinated by the Dane County Office of Lakes and Watersheds, serves as an easy one-stop shop for individuals and groups looking for local water-related volunteer opportunities.
During Take a Stake in Our Waters events, groups, clubs, businesses, individuals and families adopt beaches, shorelines, streams and more to collect litter and rake aquatic debris. Others mark storm drains with messages reminding folks to keep trash, leaves and grass clippings out of the street gutters, which drain directly to our lakes and streams. Activities can also include removing invasive species, planting native plants and trees, and gathering prairie seed.
