Dane County Executive Joe Parisi Announces Winter Programming Opportunities at UW-Extension Dane County

MADISON- Today, County Executive Joe Parisi announced upcoming winter programming provided by UW - Extension Dane County. From helping renters get better leases, to gardeners to improving their green thumb, to farmers improving their yield, the Winter Programing at the UW- Extension will help bring resources and education to help people and communities understand and solve problems. Educational programs developed and conducted by Dane County based educators reflect local concerns. They apply knowledge from the University of Wisconsin, other universities and the United States Department of Agriculture.
“We encourage community members to attend these upcoming UW-Extension educational events,” said Parisi. “Our Dane County UW-Extension educators work closely with our community to provide the educational programming that is most needed.”
University of Wisconsin-Extension is a unique partnership of counties, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the University of Wisconsin, working together to help people put knowledge to work. It reflects the vision that has become known as The Wisconsin Idea. This partnership brings education to people where they live. It supports educational programs for farmers, businesses, communities, families and young people.

2015 Soil, Water & Nutrient Management Meeting

Tech Tools for CSA Farmers – Grower Gathering
Tuesday, December 1 at Dane Co UW-Extension, 5201 Fen Oak, Madison, WI from 3 – 5 pm. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Square Space, Google Voice, Small Farm Central, Mail Chimp, oh my! We have invited farmers with skills in these tools (and more) to share their CSA communications tech tips.
Ready to Explore New Markets
If you are a farmer, processor, or food entrepreneur who is ready to explore new markets, join us to hear directly from distributors, retailers, and other food buyers about opportunities and requirements within those markets. The event is scheduled for Dec 16th 1-4 pm at Alliant Energy Center and will feature a panel discussion with tips for local producers (farmers and food processors) on how to connect with local markets through distributors and other buyers. After the panel discussion, there will be a networking activity to connect buyers and sellers of local food.
Green Thumb Gardening
The 2016 Green Thumb Gardening Series will give you the practical knowledge to keep your home garden thriving! University of Wisconsin Extension educators, specialists, and local horticulture experts will provide in depth and accessible information for everyone from the novice to the experienced gardener. Classes will be held Thursdays, 6:30 – 9:00 pm, February 25-April 14, 2016 at the Dane County UW-Extension office.
2016 Master Gardener Volunteer Training
Master Gardener Volunteer Training is designed to provide adult volunteers a solid foundation in many aspects of horticulture to assist in their community service activities. In Dane County, a Wednesday morning class (9:00am-Noon) will offered from February to August. The course consists of 16 sessions with classes held every other week.
2016 Dane County Agronomy Update Meeting
The Dane County 2016 Agronomy Update Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Comfort Inn; 5025 County Highway V DeForest, WI 7:30am – noon. Discussion topics include: Forages , Corn, Soybeans and Small Grains. Certified Crop Advisor CEU credits have been requested (3.0 hours in Crop Management).
What’s the Rent? Leasing Arrangements Workshop
Workshop will include the 2015 Dane County Farmland Rental Rates Survey Results , Cost of Production, Factors for Determining Land Rent, Renting Facilities, Contracts & Contract Law and a Landlord & Renter Panel. Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5:30-8pm, dinner at 5pm at Badgerland Financial Center, Sun Prairie Cost: $15 per person, includes meal and materials

Current Issues Affecting Local Officials Webinar Series
Extension’s Local Government Center is hosting a teleconference series titled “Current Issues Affecting Local Officials”. These programs were designed to provide unbiased information on the key issues facing local government officials. The following teleconferences are held 10:00AM-11:00AM on the following dates:
