Town of Mazomanie Suspicious Death - *Update*

Madison, WI. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 11:45PM, Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 9800 block of Dunlap Hollow Road in the Town of Mazomanie regarding an EMS assist. Upon arrival, it was determined that the death is being treated as suspicious. Our investigators and crime scene unit are actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made at this time. Identification of the decedent will be released by the Medical Examiner’s office following autopsy results and notification of next of kin.
Update:
The suspicious death investigation in the Town of Mazomanie is now being investigated as a homicide. A 70-year-old male victim was located inside the property at 9888 Dunlap Hollow Rd. after he failed to arrive at a pre-planned dinner with loved ones and was unable to be reached by phone. The 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe he owned, the vehicle he presumably arrived in, was not at the residence and could not be accounted for.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office initiated a statewide alert seeking the assistance of other law enforcement agencies in locating the vehicle and identifying any occupants. Law enforcement personnel in Marinette County located the victim’s vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop based on the information provided by Dane County. The operator fled, leading police on a chase that ended with the driver crashing the victim’s vehicle.
Agents from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting related to this incident in Marinette County.
We will continue to share more details as they become available and when appropriate to protect the integrity of the investigation. The identity of the decedent and cause of death will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
