County Executive Melissa Agard Marks Major Infrastructure Milestone in Growing Corridor
WESTPORT - Today, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Westport Town Hall to celebrate the official completion of the County Highway M Improvement Project. The event marked the end of a multi-year, multi-jurisdictional effort to modernize one of Dane County’s most important transportation corridors.
“Highway M is more than just a road—it’s a critical link for families, workers, and businesses in one of Dane County’s fastest-growing areas,” said County Executive Melissa Agard. “This project is a shining example of what we can achieve when local, county, and state governments come together to build infrastructure that’s safe, accessible, and built to last.”
The project included expanded roadway capacity, upgraded intersections, safer pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, and improved stormwater infrastructure—designed to make travel through the area safer, smoother, and more resilient.
“These aren’t just upgrades—they’re investments in the future of our communities,” Agard said. “We’ve created a more connected, equitable, and resilient transportation network for everyone who lives, works, and travels here.”
Agard also acknowledged the many partners involved in delivering the project, and thanked area residents for their patience during construction.
“To the engineers, designers, construction teams, and everyone who contributed—thank you,” she said. “And to the public: thank you for your flexibility and perseverance throughout this process. I hope you agree the finished product is worth the wait.”
The Highway M Improvement Project reflects Dane County’s commitment to smart, sustainable infrastructure that supports growth while protecting environmental resources.
“We’re building more than roads—we’re building stronger, safer communities,” said Agard.
